New Roof, Leaking!

Advice Please!

In September we got a new roof put on. We recently had quite a bit of snow (over 12 in) and we thought our heater was giving out, its an older unit. Come to find out we have a leak from we suspect our roof and water was dripping directly into our electrical box. We haven't seen any other leaks and probably would not have noticed this one had we not visualized it. The roofer is here now and an electrician is coming, hopefully today.

Can anyone give me options of what I should expect? We've already spent over $200 in replacement parts for our breakers trying to get heat - oklahoma blizzard. Our AC/heating unit are old but now we are likely going to have to replace the entire unit as well as our electrical box. We are actually very lucky our house did not catch fire and that our smoke detectors work.

As far as? What makes you think it was the roof that was leaking? Sounds like the right people are at the house and they should have better guesses than we would possibly make,

Did the water enter the circuit breaker box causing the furnace not to work? What makes you think the entire HVAC system needs to be replaced?

I was looking for advice as far as liability through the roofers or experience.

We do not have any pipes or water that run through the attic so our thoughts is maybe when the new roof was placed something was not sealed properly.

You said getting parts for your breakers. Breakers are usually replaced, not fixed. What actually did you do?

I could be saying it wrong. Originally we thought it was the heater causing the breaker to flip and it was replaced. Then we realized when the house filled with smoke that water was leaking down the breaker box and this was the real issue. The electrician left and will be replacing the entire thing this weekend.

My question is has anyone had issues related to a new roof leaking (water damage etc) and what process came out it related to the roofing company's LLC if they were determined at fault?

If you can tie the leak to the new roof, you should file a claim against the roofer.

I am a little skeptical a new roof would cause the damage you describe. But let's assume this was the case. You have to convince the roofer his work caused the water damage and ask him to pay for all the repairs. He if agrees, all is good. If he doesn't then you could file a claim with your homeowner's insurance company. If the damage is covered you may still have to pay the deductible. You ask the roofer to pay the deductible, and if he refuses take him to small claims court if you want full recovery for your loss.
