I probably won’t be much help, but about half of my growlist will be hybrids and the other half, OP. Most people are tickled to get produce from the hybrids, which leaves me with plenty.

One thing you might consider if you have seed, is to go with OP varieties like, Heidi, Sioux or Super Sioux? All three do well in my garden and only few of my hybrids out produce them.

Baker Creek’s Creole is one of the few heirlooms I can grow in my disease infested garden. I’ve had luck with Heidi and Super Sioux as well. Everything else I do is hybrid. Amelia is a hybrid that I’ve had excellent results with the past few years, and it tastes really good too.

I think as long as you don't save seed you're fine. If you do save seed, next year's plants may be completely different from what you grow this year.

If you are going to save seeds just bag the bloom. It’s easy and assures the bloom is not cross pollinated

Consider a hybrid cross of 2 heirlooms like Cherokee Carbon. (Parents are Cherokee purple and carbon). They are marketing this as a "marriage". Hybrids usually show more vigor. That is why pure blood breeds in cattle are crossed, to get vigorous calves for sale.

I always plant a couple of hybrids like early girl and Jetstar for their disease resistance. But I grew Defiance, which is supposed to be resistant to everything. First to get diseases. Never very vigorous and not particularly tasty.

You can't go wrong with Heidi. Sioux and Super Sioux are good. I love Arkansas Traveler. Large Red Cherry produces saladette sized fruit and looks like a Christmas tree covered in red and green bulbs.
