Help Should I make Radiator Covers sm or lrger to function as shelf?

I have painted walls with F& Ball borrowed light. Bought 2 IMG navy recliners and a 4 seasons white sofa. & New blinds. This is as far as I can get. I am obviously going to need help finishing. I have hired and paid someone to make (9) total Radiator Covers for the ugly late 1950's radiators. SOOOO the question today is should I have him make them just large enough to cover the ugly radiators there. Or should I in the (2) Living Room, (1) Dining Room and (2) Guest bedroom make them taller and wider so I can use the shelf's to function as plant stand, place to sit a glass or plate? If so, how tall should I make them? Right to underneath window? Thank you in advance for ANY advice. Sorry, How do i make photos smaller?

The radiators you have now seem pretty inoffensive and are nearly flush to the wall. The "covers" you've pictured are much more substantial and obtrusive.

I think a greater concern would be that the air passages seem very small and restrictive. Those, together with a wooden top (stone is more typical, in Europe for example) can only limit the airflow and effectiveness of the radiators. I think you'll find this room will be colder, with the warm air trapped inside the "cover".

I would probably look at painting them the same as the wall color and be done.

Amy, I found someone on etsy. ProjectRefurb. I dont have the covers yet as he is still building them. I will post a picture when they are completed.
