Bedroom layout help

I’d love some help rearranging the furniture in my 12 year old daughter’s room. We just can’t seem to get it right.

She has a full-size bed and desk that she needs. Other things are negotiable: dressers and bookshelves can fit in her her closet, if needed, so we really just want to put her room together In a way that feels and lives comfortably. We’ve recently inherited a bunch of sweet old furniture from my grandma — a bit of a mishmash, but we can paint and reupholster to harmonize it, so we have a lot of stuff to work with, and I’m not opposed to buying something new if we need another piece to make it all work.

Currently we have:

-a full sized bed

-a standard sized desk

-a pair of nightstands

-a double wide dresser with a mirror in the middle

-a standard dresser (not quite a highboy, but taller than the double wides)

-a skinny tall lingerie chest

-bookshelves of various sizes

-a fun old sideboard from my grandma that I think we could paint and put in the bedroom to keep her treasures

-a nice slipper chair

-a rocking chair

-a cool four-section wicker screen

Obviously, not all of this fits or makes sense. But we‘re feeling remedial, and can’t even decide where to put the bed 😆 So grateful for any ideas on how to make it work well.

This is a tween and you want to update her bedroom accordingly and keep it fresh. I'd put the bed on the window wall or the door wall.

Maybe put the sideboard in your bedroom.

Where does the bed make sense to your daughter? Headboard on the WIC wall? Headboard on the window wall? It's nice to see the headboard when walking into a bedroom but it's not everyone's preference. Have you done any furniture arranging with a scaled room layout on graph paper? A lot easier than killing one's back moving furniture in situ! :) Cut out the furniture pieces to scale. Start with the bed and desk placement. Those are the essentials. Then inventory storage needs to see what furniture is essential and where it makes sense. (How much clothing will be hung. How much folded. Etc. Don't customize it too much. Storage is best when versatile before storage needs change with the years.) I can't imagine needing a dresser in the bedroom addition to a WIC. Bedside tables usually make sense though. For a lamp, books, alarm clock or phone. Finally, figure out the quiet seating corner options (slipper chair or rocking chair?). HTH.

Here are a few layouts to consider:

I avoid putting the bed in the line of sight as you walk into a room, so that’s why I kept it on the long wall. I like the thought of the rocker with a footstool/sm ottoman by the window. I also like the dresser opposite the windows with a mirror above to reflect light (and view?).

I have a 4 panel Thai screen as my headboard. It had decorative designs painted on it and I added to them with paint pens (and nail polish!) to incorporate more colors from my room decor. Note, furn not scaled in my drawings.
