kitchen lighting

I'm in the planning/purchasing stage of the renovation of my 1978 kitchen . For lighting, I am planning a chandelier over the table ( I'm not giving up Grandma's antique oak table), a pendant or semi-flush mount over the sink, potlights in the ceiling and under cabinet lights. I will have a small island ( 60 x 27). 1. Should I also have two mini pendants over the island? 2. Should the over the sink light be a pendant or semi-flush? The open space above the sink is 48". 3. How big should this fixture be?

4. I know the trend is to not have everything be matchy-matchy, but how closely do the fixtures need to relate to have a cohesive look? Is it enough that they are all the same color? Is using different shapes ok? I am leaning towards black fixtures with seeded glass. 5. There seems to be several types of undercabinet lights- boxes, strips... Can anyone give me any info or suggestions?
