You really cannot install that corner piece not without pulling back the siding.

I have seen the corners used and they don't look bad, but as millworkman said, you have to pull siding to install them

Its time to find a contractor, or maybe someone that installs vinyl windows, or vinyl siding and let them do those repairs for you. It takes someone who knows what they are doing to make repairs like that. Your J channels are a big mess.

The problem with sloppy vinyl siding accessories is not always just the optics either. Poorly installed products do not allow the system to perform the way it was designed and you very well end up with water infiltration.

Is there J Chanel repairs that can be done without removing all the siding? I’m in tears 😭. Part of the problem is they are working in 14 degrees in Northern Michigan. Would this cut better in warmer temps?

No unfortunately, as the J-channel is attached to the sheathing before the siding is installed over the attached part. In your 3rd to last picture is that soffit cracked?

Good eye, yes, soffit is cracked. So does the siding need to be pulled from the entire house or can just around the windows be pulled? Our contractor is a great roofer, a rookie sider and stupid homeowner. We checked other roof jobs but did not ask about siding. 😭 😭😭😭

Yes, material cracks in cold weather while being cut, in warm weather material is softer and you get nice cuts.

I still have a rookie but that explains it. The weather is too cold to deal with this now. I think it probably needs to be at least 60 to cut this material.

He "should" be able to "loosen" the siding at the windows and door to be able to replace the J-channel. Not quite 60, but 40 and sunny would certainly do it as well as good sharp fairly new shears or snips.

Yes, you can tell by the way his termination points are done, unless he is cold and just trying to slap this together... As the repairs go, wait until it gets warmer, it's a bad idea to do siding repairs in cold weather because that vinyl will crack-like crackers.

It’s gonna be more difficult To fix at this point, they might make a bigger mess of itWith that attention to detail I would be looking at there roofing work, especially the flashings.

I would have another contractor redo it. If this contractor was a good one, he would never have left work like that in the first place. He would have said, things had to wait for warmer weather, so that he could do a good job, but, the fact that it is a terrible job, and he just continued on with it, knowing it looked bad, tells me, that he has no idea what he is doing.

I need to repair/redo a recent window project. All of the window j Channel corners are glued together with caulk! Looks terrible ... At best a substandard poor installation... Not happy. I'm looking for white j channel corner caps. Lows carried them but no longer. Does anyone have a source? Please let me know... Thanks, RK
