It looks good to me. If this is your first home I would leave it where it is. Later you can get a better kitchen.

Yes, that is a bit awkward. It would have made more sense if the base cabinets had been in a U-shape too.
If you can afford to lose the storage space there, I'd remove the upper cabinets to the right of the window (put shelving there in stead) and on the short wall. See if you can have upper cabinets only on the wall to the right. The cabinets above the fridge look difficult to reach, so perhaps you'd want to remove that one too. But you'll lose a lot of storage.
If only they hadn't let the countertop run to the other side of the wall, you could have put a tall cabinet in that space.
