My husband chose our beer/wine refrig. I have no idea the quality but it works for us. We wanted something small not huge that would fit in our little bar area of our kitchen. No issues. He wanted something that would fit both wine bottles and beer/soda cans. We love that the shelves are adjustable and that there is a little alarm if a door is left open. The french doors and hardware fit our style.

My 24-inch Perlick Signature refrigerator has been running without complaint since 2012. I replaced one refrigerator shelf with a wine shelf. The unit is set at the high end of its temperature range 41F. I keep ales, white wines, at-hand yoghurt, and film in it. (I have a smaller Signature for red wines held at 55F.) Note that each functional type of Perlick has a different adjustable temperature range.

Intermittently, I vacuum dust off the coil assembly and thereabouts. This unit has the advantage of being in an air conditioned room in the summer, but the disadvantage of having some insulated hydronic heating pipes behind it that are hot in the winter. (Grand plan for Family room changed between Family room design in 1988 and bar area completion in 2012.) The unit is between wood cabinets under granite.

On a tile floor with significant friction, leveling the unit can be a bit tedious because the leveling screw pads will interact with the floor between setting them and pushing the unit into place. One has to guess a bit about how much they will turn and trial compensate in the other direction.

I think the unit is very quiet. However, there is a multi-fanned 24/7 computer tower running in this room and some fans for circulation around plants, so it is below the background level and not noticeable.

I just had to replace wine cooler in a butler’s pantry. I asked the appliance repair guy what he would buy—he said that in his experience, these days, Sub Zeros are really the only ones designed to last more than 7-8 years and be repaired! For what it’s worth, he said they can’t get U-line parts, regardless of age (I am in the Midwest and U-line is headquartered in Wi). Unfortunately, my butler’s pantry cabinets are only 21” deep which limited me to only 4 product choices. A SZ would have stuck out too much so I went with a Frigidaire dual zone and bough the extended warranty. Fingers crossed.....

Have a ULine 15" beverage fridge that has worked well with no issues for 9 years. Next project I'll go with a 24" Sub-zero since there wasn't much of a price difference between SZ and the "lesser" brands.

Piggybacking off of @keseki's comment, make sure you check the temperature range of the unit. Many "wine fridges" may not get cold enough to hold other beverages at your desired temperature. This is especially important if you plan on keeping anything dairy in the fridge. Technically the safe temp is 40 or below. That may be too cold for red wine but for open containers of juice it may be perfect.

So what type of fridge should I be looking for if I want to use it to store other beverages than just the typical canned soda/beer and bottles of water? Ideally I would like something where I can store an extra gallon of milk or a carton of juice or maybe even some extra fruit.

You probably want the refrigerator (33-39F), or the beverage center (36-48F), rather than the wine reserve (40-65F) (Perlick names). They have some hybrids of these, I see looking at their website. It will depend on what temperature you want the contents to be and what type of shelves are included.

I have a different model than Boxer, but it's also a Zephyr. Completely happy with it, and it's very quiet...silent most of the time.

@julieste - I often find it difficult to figure out who is answering whom on these forums. I've never been able to find I way to tag the person I am resounding to.

Again, I agree with @kaseki. If you want to keep some regular refrigerator stuff then you need a model that will be cold enough to be safe. 40 needs to be somewhere in the range. For me preferably the upper temp rather than the lowest.

We choose the Sub Zero beverage refrigerator and have been very happy with it.
