Please help with hydrangea pruning question?

Last year, my 3 year old Limelight hydrangea got really tall, bushy and beautiful. The branches couldn't have been strong enough because those big, heavy blooms collapsed during the first heavy rainfall. I know you're not suppose to prune it but I did anyway, thinking if I did, it might not get as tall this year. I pruned it to about 18-20 inches.

My question is, when pruning a hydrangea, should you remove those three branches at the top of the main branch? I've included a couple of pics for you take a look at. The 3rd pic shows what I am asking if I should remove it or not. I marked that part with a red circle.

Thanks so much for all your help.

Last year's photo shows my hydrangea in bloom.

This photo is after I pruned it last fall.

Should I prune just below these 3 branches (looks sort of like a wishbone.
