ReFocusing the Energy

I'm just tinkering on pruning this one particular LL Tree.

It lost a good cane when some high winds uprooted the whole dang thing.

This cane did provide some shape to it one one side of this treeform. I put some glue on the stub that was left and hoping to see bud come out of this year, but upon 1st spring cleanup /pruning, I think this stub is done. The outer bark seems to have dried/peeled up as it's split/open and I'm seeing more split cracks in this stub that I did not see last year, as the bark was still covering this stub. Last summer, it looked fine and fresh,

SO, I'm off to pruning to reshaping/guide the plant on how I want.

For stubs with branching, If I cut off the branching, it will force dormant buds that normally may be be present since there is budding on the terminal end.

Am I guaranteed this or wishful thinking. I know will get a dormant bud. I'm just guaranteed if I will get 2 - one on a opposing side right ? Who knows how buds develop on LL. IME, the older/thicker the cane the more spaced out the buds gets. The more thinner/younger stems have buds spaced much closely
