Flooring Woodworking Design Dilemma

Matching Cypress to White Oak

We have beautiful unfinished new growth cypress beams that we intend to match in tone to our natural white oak floors. The issue has been that the cypress pieces are rather red and the stains/semi solids are just not getting us to the blonde tone. Can any experts out there shed some light on how to achieve the look?

I am not an expert, but it seems that you have to get the red out of the cypress, which is not going to be achieved by adding color to the cypress.

If you would post pictures, some of the design experts may give you an alternative to re-doing the cypress.

How to get red out of wood? Go super dark...like ebony or espresso. How to get white oak to 'look' more like cypress = Stain the White Oak into the tones for the cypress.

Personally I would embrace the difference. Let both of the woods live the way they are meant to live. If that isn't something you want or can 'like', then pick a different wood for the beams or wood for the floors.
