Dilemmas as a Designer

One of the requirements I love about being a designer, is the fact that it’s not always pretty- this matches my personality completely! Sometimes, you’re going to have to get your hands dirty in demolished renovation sites, dusty construction sites, or dilapidated homes - let’s just say you’re not always in heels. Tonight is a perfect example. The project start date is coming up, meaning all deliveries are due on-site. The job is installing brick stone, this involves TONS of mortar (may as well be literally) that had to be taken over tomorrow morning. I had picked up the first shipment and picking up the second tomorrow, but needed to transport bags of mortar to a bigger car in order to compensate for tomorrow’s pick up. I looked in my trunk, and thought there is no way I can do this. Each bag is 30kg/66lbs (that’s 330lbs total!). All I could do is try, I’d drag it over, and it would not budge. I decided to walk it off before going at it. I had essentially told myself there is no option, and I just had to suck it up and try harder...needless to say- it worked! I did one after the other, and whenever I lost strength- I took a break, regrouped and went for it. It’s safe to say I got my workout in, probably enough for tomorrow too! Us designers are involved in the pretty and the ugly parts of transformations every step of the way- and plus points for free workouts on the good days! 💪 #WeDidIt! I hope you didn't break a nail princess, Yawn. My 69 year old wife hauled 80 pound sacks of mortar and helped on a chimney rebuild, AND hauled 2 tons of large trap rock for landscaping just last fall because she wanted to. She's a full time banker not a construction worker but also designed, managed contractors (including me) and did all the interior painting on a flip this winter and sold it, but to her it's just another day in her life.

Now if you mixed the mortar, hauled and set 700 cement blocks for a building foundation, like my wife helped me do one summer I may have given you an Attagirl but keep it up, someday you might be in same league as my wife.

@outpaientzero Oh good lord, why does every thing have to be a d$ck measuring thing for some men?

Kudos to you @FDesigns for getting it done! I love a designer or any profession for that matter that sees herself as part of a team and not above it all. Love it!

@outpaientzero You're right- I do hope to be at that level at 69! For now, I'm just a couple years into my career, and for me at 25, it felt great to be involved in the dirty work. Looking forward to more opportunities like that. @Mich I think we need more kind people in this world lol, I appreciate your support!

Good for you, OP, it’s nice to see such dedication and enthusiasm. :)

As for Kevin’s response ... I always wondered what happened to Owen! I had no idea he posted here.

At least you don't have to worry about breaking the mortar bags! I've transported and unloaded packaged 12x24 and 24x24 tiles ... heavy and breakable!
