Seeking some advice about hummingbird babies. We have a hummingbird nest with 2 babies(about 9-10 days old) in a nest built on a jasmine plant on an arbor. Since yesterday, it was very windy and raining all day. Thinking I am doing a good deed & fearing the baby birds might fall off the nest, I attached a plastic sheet above the nest(some distance away) and a barrier for the wind on 1 side, so that the mommy bird can come in from the other side as usual. After that, I saw the mommy hovering around the nest, perch on it couple of times but it did not feed the babies. But after that I just saw it flying around but it did not come to its nest again. Suspecting it because of what I did, i removed everything I attached. It is night and the mommy still didn't return. Did I mess up big time by interfering with nature? I am afraid of the worst outcome. If anyone knows the hummingbirds behavior or next best step, pl. advise.
