I never used to get seedlings but now that I don't cut back the scapes I get quite a few. I ditch most of them unless blue or yellow.

Dug these out around June (the Hosta). The front 2 looks like Royal Standard seedlings. The only one I kept was the blue. A friend wanted the rest.

Gold Standard sporting. Have had this for years and it never looked like GS from the beginning. Have another GS heavily sporting but can't find the pics right now.Leaf on Regal Splendor.

Wow, I am totally impressed. I get a lot of sports that are basically green and uninteresting.

Haha, miles——I have never gotten a seedling, but then I cut my petioles after all the flowers are spent. But I also don’t have the real estate for it. :-)

How exciting to glimpse my future hosta purchases in their infantile stages! I have nothing to report for this topic seedling-wise. I bought 2 plants over the past couple years while sport-fishing at big and small nurseries.

The all green was sold as So Sweet. I think it is Sweetness. It is a strong grower, second year.
The big mediovariegated with nice white strip was sold as Striptease for $9.99. I call it Sportsball, thought it may be Erotica.

Great pictures, seedlings and sports are fun to see what they develop into. I only have one sport from Paradigm. I divided it from the mother plant, so I have two plants. Right now I am enjoying the sport mixed with Paradigm in the second plant.

Hosta Maker, love what you have going on there with the red blush, way to go!

This is out of 'Sea Octopus', OP. It's a fairly early riser and it's viridescent but stays yellow for quite some time, I'll put it in a bit more shaded area this year and see how that influences the colour. It had an interesting inflorescence last year, the first time I saw it in flower, we'll see what this year brings.

Excellent! Hosta Maker shows up with some very promising youngsters. What's worse, having something interesting that's already out there, or having something interesting that just doesn't grow? Do you still use it for breeding?

hosta_maker, I am just as thrilled as utog to see my choices of future hostas. Pieter, first I learned you had two homes, now I learn that you are a hosta creator as well! Love your seeding from Sea Octopus.... that flower is beautiful! Steve, I like that last one you show.....something very appealing about the shape of that leaf shape.

OK all of you, I'm convinced you have 5 acres at least with lots of room for hostas, lol. So many striking plants. Steve must have 10 acres with all of his stuff!

windymess it seems you and I (my friend too) are perhaps among the few who appreciate a good green! It could have been an Independence seedling or could have been from F. Aureomarginata. Either way it is a Fortunei seedling. I tossed dozens but kept a couple more just because I thought they had merit in their beautiful greenness lol!

This pic is from 2019 before I cleared out the seedlings. The one I gave to my friend might have been that very dark one behind the rock upper left.

Awe thanks Paula, I am feeling some better just seem to have gotten into a funk lately. Weather is breaking and so many things I want to do but still not able. - This too shall pass.

Resist the urges old_dirt. Healing takes time. I am 9 weeks out from my hip replacement a and while I’m getting around, I still need my cane from time to time and bending over to pick things up is still a problem so I use my trusty grabber! Maybe there is someone who can help you out this year??
