Mixing Wainscoting Styles in Adjoining Rooms

Love the formality (and drama!) of 65"+ Picture Frame Trim in two story foyer / stairway. ISSUE: the adjacent lower level entrance (off the garage) is more like a mudroom / laundry area -- informal/craftsman-ish Board and Batten would seem more appropriate/authentic; formal Picture Framing in this area seems totally out of place, forced, and just architecturally wrong. Solutions? An in-between style of wainscoting? If I say the heck with it and do the two distinctive styles, will it look bananas at the wall corner where they meet? Contractor is coming next week to work on door/window frames/headers, paint and finish punch-list; want him to do the wainscoting before he finishes. Any/all suggestions -- greatly appreciated!!!
