Someone said this is a buttonhole pattern. I didn't use a pattern, just started with rectangular pieces sewing, flipping, ironing and carrying on.

This is a scrap quilt with rescued velvet from a previous velvet quilt my mother made in the early 1970's. The cotton batting shredded from washing, the bottom flannel was thread bare, dissolving. It couldn't take another wash.

I didn't want another totally dark quilt so I used up floral fabrics from my stash, added bright orange to really cause a collision of colour for dark winter days. It's machine pieced, hand quilted. Flannel sheet bottom, extra thick poly-batting. Very heavy to lift - my version of a weighted blanket. Wonderful on cold winter nights.

Getting close to switching over to a lighter quilt. I still have my tacking stitches to remove. Maybe the colours don't actually work but the idea of a quilt with recycled memories is all that mattered to me.

Now I'm thinking of a summer quilt with reds, lots of red.
