I purchased an espresso color kitchen table and chairs off Craigslist a few years ago. The table top is sensitive and my teens and spouse are not careful. A glass left on it will give a ring, etc.

I put a glass protective top on it but it always looks dirty and is more frustrating. It is also chipped on a corner and has scratched.

I am thinking of going back to the naked table. Can I wax it? It does not have to be perfect but I want to protect it if I can.

I was thinking of covering the top with Corian (probably at least $600) or getting a new wood (not espresso) table top made for it, but I might as well use the table top as is for now and let it be used until it is damaged or bugs me too much.

Any advice on waxing an espresso table? It is not like waxing fine furniture, I am just trying to find an interim protective step. Will wax on a dark table make it cloudy and ugly?
