Lights over bathroom vanity

Hi! I am remodeling the vanity area in my bathroom -- new 60 inch walnut vanity, double sinks, one large mirror, and lights. Question -- which will look better -- (2) 2-light fixtures (15 inches) or (2) 3-light fixtures (23 inches)? Thanks!

There is really not yet enough detail / context to offer an opinion. What is the ceiling height? What is the relationship of the new vanity & mirror to surrounding walls (a sketch layout / floorplan is always helpful when asking for opinions)? Since you have the dimensions of fixtures, perhaps post images of those so houzzers can see the bulbs/shades that you’re choosing from. Material choices and p aint colors can also be considered when attempting to get the lighting right. Please give us more to work with!

Thanks for your comment. I’ll go back and add more detail.

Just one more thing to add - the location of your sinks will be perhaps the biggest determining factor. If they are placed relatively close to the outer edges of the vanity, you may not be able to center a three light fixture over them, or the fixtures may end up too close to the vanity sides.

Thanks! In looking at the sink placement, I think two 2 or 3 light fixtures, about 18 inches, might work out best. The bathroom is not all that big, so I don’t want to overwhelm the 60 inch vanity with lights that are too big. The mirror will be about 58 inches.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Thanks! That’s what I was thinking. I don’t want it to look too crowded. Do you think it’s the width of the fixture or the fact that it has 2or 3 lights? Meaning if I find a 3 fixture light that is 18 inches wide, would that be ok?

Hmmm good question, and I’m not sure I know what the answer is. But I suspect it’s mostly the issue of the width, and if you found something with three narrow lights it would probably be ok and long as it’s something that has pretty clean lines.

Thanks! I did find a few that I think might work. I want to make sure the lights (shades all pointing down) have enough presence without overwhelming the mirror. I'm using polished nickel to coordinate with the warm beige/cream marble patterned shower/floor tiles that I am not replacing. The tub/toilet are linen by American Standard. Here are some lights that range from 16" to 19.5". My style is transitional. I'm using Kohler Bancroft PN faucets. The one large vanity mirror will be framed in walnut to match the new 60" walnut vanity (shaker style). The countertops are Caesarstone Dreamy Marfil (creamy beige with very little pattern). Do you have thoughts about white/opal/clear light shades? I tend to like clear, and am also not sure what "opal" means (throws off pink/yellow hues?). Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh wow that’s a gorgeous faucet! I like the first light fixture best from a style perspective, but I personally don’t care for clear shades in a bathroom - I find the light too harsh. So personally I’d probably choose the second fixture. The third or fourth probably coordinate better with the faucet because they have softer edges, but I like the shade shape best on the second fixture. But honestly it’s all personal preference - any of them would look great.

Do you like these by any chance? I have the sconce version in a vacation rental property I own, and I renters ask about them all the time. Very reasonably priced also. https://www.shadesoflight.com/products/bygone-classic-bath-light-3-light?sku=BS11022+++CH&mrkgadid=1&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=1&mrkgcat=&acctid=21700000001693419&dskeywordid=92700053851291217&dsproductgroupid=408312579332&product_id=BS11022CH&merchid=5159247&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid={product_store_id}&device=m&network=g&matchtype=&locationid=9005630&creative=435801630635&targetid=pla-408312579332&campaignid=361496192&adgroupid=102784025938&gclid=CjwKCAjwpKCDBhBPEiwAFgBzj-MPCzwHhwBDO0cfyE6bMAh9Mi65BQNbccPcVGb83x_5hdBYWYwpVBoCangQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Thanks for you comments. Yes, I do like that fixture. Good to know about clear shades. Didn’t think of that. Thanks!
