It was a beautiful day here--in the mid 70's--and the daylilies are really jumping out of the ground. I noticed today when we were out that the magnolias are in bloom. That means in our neck of the woods that it's time for a frost. It's a rare year here when they don't get frosted. Indeed, the low for Sunday night is 30 and it gets worse later in the week when the low is predicted to be 25. I hope the daylilies are not hurt by that. I am not so afraid for the named varieties but the frosts last spring hurt the first year seedlings and we didn't get the bloom we usually do. Spring weather is always so unpredictable here!

Here too, Nancy. sherry, if you remember I whined about so many daylilies looking as if boiling water had been poured on them, well they overcame and are really looking good in time for the cold weather due midweek. It happens every year, but if it is as advertised, it will kill off the just blooming azaleas and bite the already blooming snowballs but the lilies will be okay since it will last just a few hours. nancy, it is a shame that the magnolias get hit every year.

That seems like the one thing you can count on with the weather here, early spring and plants will get frosted. I do hope it won't set daylilies back too much. I have a lot of iris, the last 2 years that late freeze knocked back a the early bloomers badly.

Sherry, I have just been outside checking on the blooming plants, and the snowballs are open

and lovely, the azaleas are budded with a few blooms open and the freezes are coming later this week. At least the freeze is only at night and not the following day, but there may be three of them. I am praying for wind since that would prevent settling. One year I had fans blowing on all the fully blooming azaleas and the frost didn't bother them at all. Several of the daylilies open very late and I suspect the freeze might bother them. It happens every year; too warm for a while promotes blooms then freeze!

Here it is supposed to get down to 25 one night. Breezy during the day so i too am hoping that will keep it from being too bad.

We have had no snow for a month . The frost is definitely out of the ground now and we have had unusually warm weather so plants are growing rapidly after we had about 2 inches of rain the other day . We need more rain but now the cold temps are keeping everything under control so hopefully I can get a few more gardens cleaned before the plants get too high .
