How do I remove this built in cabinet?

I can't figure out how to remove this built in cabinet. Two mysteries in particular I would like expert advice on.

- Looking at the front of the cabinet the upper right hand corner is notched to fit around the fireplace trim, but then the top of the cabinet is wider than the trim.

- The bottom of the cabinet seems to sit behind the baseboard.

My current hypothesis is I need to remove the baseboard and then I'll be able to pull it out. Could that be?

Your cabinet was built in place so you will have to disassemble it. First the baseboard, then the trim along the front edge of the top. Next the top will lift up from the left side (the right side sits in a notch on the fireplace). Once the top is off the rest will be obvious.

It sounds like you think the top is notched around the trim, but that's not the case. I agree with Hallett, the fireplace trim is sitting on top of the built-in's top. This means if you remove the built-in, you will also need to replace that piece of fireplace trim. Try to proceed as Hallett described.

I agree with the others about the demo.

But mostly I wonder why one would put a toe-kick on a cabinet no one will stand close to?
