Stain on my granite

I use a dish for my soap dispenser so that it won’t muck up the counter. I was shocked to find a dark ring where the dish was. I clean the area daily. It’s a relatively new home and they t9ld me the granite was sealed. Anyone have this happen? How did you get rid of it? My husband read to put wet sponges on the area overnight. He’s going to go to the store tomorrow to get granite sealer. He’s never done that either so hopefully they’ll give him good advice, but any tips you can offer is appreciated.

What granite is it? Granites vary a lot in how absorptive or not they are depending upon which one. Some granites never need sealing at all, and some need sealing 3 times a year. Can you provide a photo?

Could we see what you are dealing with....a picture. And, don't seal it until you've done something to resolve the mark. You don't want to seal it in....

This is why you never use mats or dishes or soap bottle bottoms on engineered stone or natural stone. These products are much more delicate than people think. A sink replacement with a faucet deck is probably the only cost effective cure for the estone damage pictured above, considering replacing the island would be 5K or so.

Soap dispensers, please. And never apply sealer until the offending soap has been poulticed away.
