Hi Ann - I am fairly certain that the rose is Gene Boerner.

The pics and description fit. It’s been a great rose for me. It’s been in my garden for 10 years - requires very little care, is disease free and is a top performer.

I think you both have nailed it. I've long admired this Rose so looked at it closely but didn't want to venture a guess since I don't grow it. What a gorgeous Rose. Any thoughts on how it would do in black spot country?

I think you guys nailed it. Jo, The pictures of your rose is beautiful! I actually like the coloring on your Gene Boerner Rose is even slightly more deep and saturated than my friend’s Rose. I’m not typically into roses that have blooms that curl back and create sharp, pointy angles. I prefer blooms with a softer more rounded shape. But the fact that this rose seems to be a blooming machine in early March and has done so well on such little care caught my attention.

If it was a bagged or small potted rose, it's also more likely to be GB as it's out of Patent and often available as such. I'm on the look out for it at Menard's where I've seen it before. Thanks for the reminder. BTW, it does remind me of Wedding Bells, but I always think of that as a deeper colour.

A bit more info about this Rose. My friend purchased it from The Home Depot in Southern California late last year. She has no idea what Rose it is. Does it still sound Gene Boerner?

I'm pretty sure I saw Wedding Bells as a small boxed rose at Home Depot, but the photos on HMF show a huge variation in coloration so I'm not sure it's that one. But what do I know, I've never grown either one 😅

The leaves look more like 'Gene Boerner' than 'Wedding Bells', comparing these photos to those on HMF (I've grown neither). Also, the myrrh fragrance attributed to 'Wedding Bells' would be a distinct clue, and its fragrance is noted by at least one comment made on HMF.

You can find some amazing roses at Home Depot in their hodgepodges of offerings sometimes -- mine has several times had plants of 'Frau Karl Druschki' for sale, for example.

FWIW, I got my Gene Boerner from Home Depot. It was in full flower and as soon as I read the tag, I grabbed it; I had read good things about it on these forums.

The leaves in your first picture are unmistakable, Ann. If your friend’s rose isn’t Gene Boerner then neither is mine! 🙂

Vaporvac - re:black spot. I wish I could tell you whether it’s resistant but I am not in in a high black spot pressure area. It’s a rose worth trying.

Wow!!! Apparently I’ve been shopping at the wrong Home Depot’s, because all the roses I’ve gotten from them have been duds, and not lived up to my expectations... so I just sort of gave up on even considering buying roses from them. Now I’m gonna have to reconsider. Thank you EVERYONE for your help identifying my mystery rose.
