It's just too hard to tell what it is with the leaves curled up. I wonder why someone cut it down.

because they filmed apocalypse now in that jungle before they sold the house .. lol ...

i also noted its been hacked miserably... once you ID it.. and if its of value ... you should probably move to the shrub forum.. and we can probably tell you how to renovate it ... a pic of the whole plant now.. will help us explain when it fully leafed out. since we can see the structure when leafless ..

if.. on the other hand.. if its not valuable.. cut the stump to a few inches.. and apply a stump killer.. or undiluted roundup [which is labeled as a stump killer.. or used to be].. and kill the roots...

if you prefer intense manual labor.. and need that exact spot.. you could also dig it out at that decision ...

Haha Ken, that about sums it up! It looked like a jungle around here when we purchased the house. The garden hadn’t been tended to in years because the house sat empty, some of the shrubs and several trees had been planted too close to the house, large honeysuckle bushes (the invasive kind) had moved in along with other things from the woods behind the house. The guys who cleared stuff so the structure could be accessed were definitely not stopping to identify what they were cutting. Not ideal, but at the time the best we could do.

I knew it was too early, just couldn’t wait to find out what it is. I’ll post more pictures when it’s progressed a bit.
