Hello all!

I am adding a much needed foyer/entrance area onto my existing kitchen. The new addition will be roughly 8x8, but it will disturb the current layout for one kitchen wall and I'm trying to decide how to best handle this.

The new foyer wall will start right in the middle of where the window on the right now is (where the plants are sitting) - so the window has to go. But I do not want to lose any natural light; those are southern facing and I want to keep as much sunlight as possible! So these are the choices I've been able to come up with:

1. Add lots of windows to the new foyer, so it's ok that the kitchen loses this one window (everything in the photo to the right of the window will all be open - that turns into the foyer/entrance). I do plan put windows on all 3 walls of the new 8x8 entrance area.

2. Move the existing window to the left - it would need to shift about 16", which means the existing cabinet that is between the two windows couldn't stay. So then...

2a - remove the cabinet entirely, leave this wall open (I don't love this b/c it's a very functional cabinet space, being right above the dishwasher)

2b - replace it will a smaller wall cabinet - the largest I could do is about 19" wide, but I worry it would look strange on its own? (existing cabinet is 36" wide). It might also throw off symmetry over the dishwasher

2c - get a narrow window that fits between the cabinet and the new foyer (it would have to be about 16" or I could shrink the upper cabinet some?) This would throw off window symmetry though, also might look weird from the exterior standpoint

I've already ruled out doing open shelving - just doesn't work well with cats who like to knock things over :) and I don't really like the look anyway.

Any other ideas or votes on this? Thanks!!
