It's Lactuca canadensis

I do not know L canadensis personally but OP’s plant looks slightly hirsute. Is that right? And the flower buds are larger, fewer and a different shape than what I see in images.

AFAIK Silphium albiflorum doesn't have milky sap and hollow stems? I'd call that glaucous, not hirsute.

I’m not saying it’s the Silphium. I’m just dubious about the Lactuca. The stem looks fuzzy to me. And the buds look too few and too fat. I don’t see where OP says it has milky sap. Perhaps we can see it again when it flowers?

The OP didn't have to mention it because it's in the photo as plain as day. I suggest the stem is glaucous as stated in the key and the buds appear strange because of the angle of the photo. Give me the name of a species you have in mind that would would be a good alternative?

^ Actually that hollow stem with milky sap belongs to another plant there, that I broke off to get a better pic of this one. You can still see the lower leaves on that one...and it likely is a Lactuca virosa, or some other type of Lactuca...

White Rosinweed is usually quite stiff...but I've also never seen it growing fresh in the Spring. So, perhaps they are more pliable right now because they are brand new?

Texas Dandelion (Pyrrhopappus paucifloris) sometimes has similarly deeply-lobed leaves...but they are usually much smaller. And also, their flower buds are different than these.

Soooo, looks like there might be a fair chance this is actually White Rosinweed...in one of my favorite genera of native prairie wildflowers! Hopefully they don't mow it down before it flowers so I can verify it!

It is not like any white rosin weed that I have seen. Leaves are much rougher. White veins much more pronounced with the secondary veins branch off are more pronounced and the leaves are not as strictly symmetrical. The structure of the plant is not as upright..... more clumpy. At this time of year it will look more like a real leathery fern; not with fiddleback but with leaves coming out of the ground directly.There is a thick white edge to the leaf. Yes Texas dandelions do grow in Texas . LOL.

OK, so here's the update with yellow flowers now...which would then indicate a Texas Dandelion...

It indicates that this plant has yellow flowers, but the condition of the flowers makes it impossible to accurately ID as Pyrrhopappus carolinianus, though the buds phyllaries and foliage seem to already indicate it is, but without a better flower photo showing the center disk flowers it leaves this open to it being yet another species.
