Annuals for Damp Soil and Sun

Hey Gardenwebbers! :)


Planning my annual planters and needing some help for one area in particular: Around the fountain in the rose garden out by the front entrance.


I had sweet alyssum in a halo around it last year, and while I loved the look of it, it wasn't great in that half of the plants were dead by midsummer due to having consistently wet feet as a result of the water splashing over the fountain and keeping that soil wet.


It IS a sunny area, which is nice - but it never dries out completely on that one side where the water is particularly splashy.


This year, we're considering doing some combination of petunias and maybe marigolds, but depending on the source, seeing that marigolds may not do well with wet feet.


Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Attaching some photos of this area from last year; sorry that there isn't a better shot of that circle surrounding the fountain - but that's the area in question (some of those blooming alyssum are visible in the photo with the poodle).
