To me that's getting tight, both practically and esthetically. The width is ok, but you're pushing it on the length. If you don't need the 8' length for everyday family use, consider a shorter table with a leaf or two that can expand in a pinch. A way to judge whether 32"X8' is ok for yourself is to get some large cardboard the size of the table top, prop it up on some boxes, put the chairs around it, and see how it looks, and how it feels getting seated in this room.

IMO it can work , a bit tight but at least you will have 3’ all around which is ample for seating.Make sure the chairs are light looking and the table with pedestal base would be a good idea. Do you need to have seating for 8 all the time or as mentioned maybe a table with a leaf . Always when asking this type of question a to scale drawing of the space showing windows and doorways is helpful and is this a closed in space or open ? A picture of the table and the chairs is also helpful/. The 32” is a bit ofa n issue but if you tend to do plated service more than family style it will work.I have a Corbusier dining table for my outdoor dining it is only 33 " wide and works fine.

I have a 9x10 dining space off my kitchen and have a 42x60 table. It is tight, but it does work.

The entire space is being renovated so it has to work until renovations are done.

I have had dinner for 8 and added a leaf and we all managed to have a pleasant dinner.

Most days it is just one or two people.

According to my design book, the following are acceptable for rectangular tables:

• 30" x 66" table requires 9' x 12'-6" room
• 36" x 72" table requires 10' x 13' room

Based on this, your maximum table size should be 30" x 72"
