Personally if was just moving in I would paint everything white. Wall color is usually the last choice after furniture, rugs etc

It is the same color as the rest of the house right now. I am painting the cabinets white right away.

There is so much going on with your walls, ceiling, stairs, etc. I would suggest white to calm it all down some. The vaulting, split level, ceiling beams, wall bumps, etc. provide plenty of visual interest. Painting a color that contrasts with the white ceiling makes the space a bit visually frenetic. You can introduce color and pattern with your furniture and accessories. Good luck!

I would go with some warm color.
