Ah, @rosecanadian that's exactly what I do. I'm so glad an experienced gardener has the same method. I'm also a dusk slug stomper (although organic bait helps too) and back when I lived where tomato hornworms were devastating, I would go out with scissors and snip them. Not for the squimish for sure.

You have to spray them several days in a row to get all the successions of eggs that hatch.

Everyday; soap may not be needed. You may harm your roses with excess chemicals. Do you have a hose? Can you spray with water?

I use the yellow sticky traps, but if you are infested, it maybe too late for a preventative.

If you press the aphids with your fingers, they will squish, rosecanadian recommended that method.

thanks !! will try with hose :)... I think the soap and water I tried today after 2 day gap and it seems to have helped quite a bit. squishing them one or few at a time seems a very long process :) I will look into the yellow traps for future.

Well, one does not squish one or a few at a time.

i suspect the technique is on u tube.

Aphids tend to cluster at the tips and on the newest growth. It's pretty easy to get dozens of the nasty little critters with one swipe! I also favor using just a strong spray of water to dislodge and crush them.

I squish with my fingers, and spray with a hose. But it's also important to think about why you've got aphids. They are around everywhere, but only boom on our plants sometimes. In my experience, the causes tend to be:
!) Overfertilising with nitrogen. Soft fast growth is more vulnerable.
2) Ants farming and protecting the aphids on our plants.
3) Hot and windless conditions in my greenhouse.

Ironically, pesticides can contribute to some pest problems by eliminating their predators. Try to stick with solutions that won't kill lacewings, ladybugs, sawflies, etc.
