Since the 'tile' matches the (obvious) bricks, purchase matching bricks and cut random pieces off them for the repair work.

To my eye, it looks like quarry tile that's been cut or broken on site, then installed. Different manufacturers will have a slightly different color, so it might be worth trying to find a broken piece to take with you to a couple stores.

I wonder if you might be happier in the long run taking out the tile and redoing it with brick. Finding matching tile will be tricky, and cutting out and replacing individual, irregularly shaped tiles sounds like a lot of work. And if some tiles have cracked, it seems likely that others will do so later.

Not much help, but I have the same tile and the same wearing-out. Just around the edges, just like yours -- the middle is still perfect. And my house was built in 1970.

The difference is that you have a large, lovely patio ... I have a 3' square under my side-door stoop.

Yes, it’s called quarry tile, and the application is called broken quarry tile. As Ripped Jeans said, take pieces with you to try to match. I’ve seen it at HD, but it was darker red than yours. A good tile place should be able to help you, or you can look online for any that someone might be selling after a reno.

It was popular in the ‘50s, too. I love it. Glad you’re keeping it. :)

@Ripped Jeans Construction @Jilly Thank you so much for identifying the type of tile. I had never heard of quarry tile, but, after googling that I think you are both correct. And, I agree that it was probably broken on site. This is a huge step in the right direction!!!

@Isaac I get what you are saying but that would be a massive project and way more $ than I want to spend. The tile covers both the uncovered and covered porches and the area that needs repair is very small.
