working with interior brick walls

last month

Hi - looking for some feedback/reactions to a 'design dilemma' : working with "exposed brick". In this case it is a light colored brick / not quite yellow -- more 'light beige' but defly not red - in a tudor style home. The previous owners used the brick for a ceiling to floor surround fireplace in living room which 'faces' in an large open concept space the kitchen where this same brick is used various diff ways - backsplash on one wall; sides of large island, etc. My immediate reaction is that it's just 'too much' --- im wondering if we painted the brick in living room white - would that 'work' ? ie keep the 'texture / concept' but change it up a bit / make it a bit less 'rustic'. thoughts? wud that help or be 'worse' ?
