ceiling and wall same color?

We are building and we have open floor plan for kitchen /dining/living room with cathedral ceiling. I have gray cabinets going into kitchen and dining area and a blue color across the room for small bar. I’m thinking of a light greige color, should I paint ceiling and walls all same color? Will have faux beams in white. Thank you

SW Pure White here is an example where everything is painted this color, the difference in just sheen for cabinets and trim.

I think painting the ceiling the same color as the walls screams “I was too cheap to paint the ceiling white”

I chose to paint the ceilings and walls the same in our new custom home (color and finish), in order to highlight the crown molding and tray ceilings.

@Candace It was actually more expensive to do so, because I picked a satin finish for the ceiling to match the walls instead the MUCH cheaper flat white paint.

@BeverlyFLADeziner OP stated a light griege. I was merely showing examples of what I choose (a light color) since she also mentions white faux beams and I wanted molding highlighted.

Why didn't you select a floor that complemented the finish of your cabinets and mantel more?? It has lots of red in the color.

I love my choices on my completely finished home.

You can blame my crummy cell phone camera for washing out the color of the wood look tile flooring in the living room pic. My cabinet stain goes very well with the colors in person. (The apricot color is SW 7555 Patience)

Same tile floor, same cabinet stain, same paint

The color I am thinking for both walls and ceiling is SW Drift if Mist. My floors are a wood look grey and white tile. The look I’m thinking will be close to pic attached. This living space was in another conversation whether or not to paint same color for both walls and ceiling.

Its a great look, go for it! Painting the ceiling is now used more and more to highlight specific features and your home is a beautiful example of that! It is hard to comment on the actual color without seeing or learning more about the space. It looks like the windows are all around(so no northern exposure?) but not very large so still a dark space in its own that is why I would do a much lighter color. Because the color will be surrounding you, YOU have to LOVE the choice in every light and next to everything you put in. So when you make your selection pls try to evaluate the undertones too. Here is an example of what to look for: https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/paint-colour-review-sherwin-williams-drift-of-mist-sw-9166/

With an LRV of 69, SW Drift of Mist is a great light greige especially compared to your inspiration pic which is BM Revere Pewter with an LRV of 55.51. It's quite darker than your choice.

Definitely paint swatches on all four walls to make sure it doesn't show purple, like mentioned in the above Kylie article. I had that trouble when choosing my exterior paint for my home and my friend's. My sample showed purply-pink and her's turned deep purple. It was a little horrifying, lol. (My color was SW Tony Taupe, her's SW Charcoal Blue. I went with Taupe Tone and she picked Sea Serpent)

It's not a sign of cheapness to paint your ceiling the same color as your walls. I think this article gives a lot of good reasons to consider painting your ceiling the same, different, darker, or lighter than your walls. None of which evoke a sense of cheapness. https://bigdogpainting.com/blog/2020/3/2/what-color-should-you-have-your-ceiling-painted-in-2020

The concern with SW Drift of Mist is its green undertones and how they will work with your gray and blue

@CD7733 - in your case with the crown molding it is beautiful! You are right - accentuating the molding was the way to go!

Example of Drift of Mist on walls a ceilings, flooring is darker and beams are gray, but it looks very nice: https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/spacious-modern-ranch-home-pj-vj~6136846

Agreed @User ! This room looks great:) the difference between this and mimi's room is the lighting. See the size of the windows and the natural light above room gets. That light makes the Drift of Mist look lighter and apeal to its cooler undertones. And agree the pairing with Pure White for trim is stunning especially paired with all light colored/neutral furnishings. Mimi's house is a lot darker and that is when the Drift of Mist can start looking drab and show its uggly green undertones. Especially next to gray cabinets and blue

That is the reason why I recommended using Pure White throughout as it will actually not look white, it will look more like a very light neutral.

In other words painting Mimi's room Pure white will actually make it look closer to the above pic:) haha I know...figuring out paint is hard...:)

Wow! Love the article on LRV! I am definitely going to go lighter. I have not purchased our floor yet so that may change as well. I like darker floors and white cabinets but the hubby has encouraged me to try something new, but I’m thinking that’s why I’m struggling so much. I love the pic with the darker floors. Thanks so much for all the feedback. I will continue to post questions as I’m overwhelmed with the house as it is our first build and we don’t want to re-do everything.

Did you end up using Drift Of Mist? If so what are your thought about it? Would love to see photos of the finished project.

No I ended up using pure white throughout the whole house except for a few bedrooms and laundry room. I love the color and still waiting for sofas. Now looking for those special pieces, wall art etc. don’t want the house to look like a furniture store 😂

Still decorating and it’s harder than ever. Looking for credenza/table near front door with art work. Not sure if I should keep abstract? Love Chagall but will it clash? Love my two artwork near windows but want something original
