I am just so excited about this rose! It is great that you are getting it out there in the world, Paul -- hopefully at some point someone will be able to distribute it at a larger scale.

I just wanted to let you know, Paul, that even as far away as Norway and Denmark "Marianne" is on the wish list of many lovers of old-fashioned roses. Today a couple of members of a Norwegian Facebook forum expressed the wish to obtain one. It sure would be nice it was possible. What would it take, in practical terms, if a specialised rose nursery in Europe (Denmark) were willing to grow it? I have one in mind, but he is in his seventies...

HMF has this listed as zone 6a. Is that a definite? I'm in 5a, but would love to grow it if it's possible it would survive here. I do winter protect with mulch. Thank you!

I've been looking at Paul's roses at RVR for a while now, but I have an impression that quite a few people here have received mislabeled roses from them. I'm also not sure how smoothly are the things processed at the border at the moment, and I really wouldn't like to pay quite a lot, get my hopes up, and then receive a rose that didn't survive the transport, or was mislabelled to start with. I think I will wait and see how the things develop.

I believe there are many people who grow 'Marianne' in zones as cold as 4B and it does well without trouble. I think you are safe to grow it in your Zone 5 climate, but choose a spot where its sheltered near a building, or at least out of a windy location.

I have no idea. It probably has typical winder hardiness of the rest of the Miniature class, which is to say that if its well protected by snow accumulations, it should survive winters, but don't expect any wood above ground to survive. As far as I know, nobody has grown this in a cold climate, so the data isn't there.

At this time, the only way to obtain this rose is to get a copy from someone who grows it. I don't image there are more than maybe 15 people who have copies, to the best of my knowledge.
