Season getting started

It's always exciting to see the first scapes of the season and day before yesterday I saw three tiny scapes on Middendorffii. Last year this plant bloomed on April 26th. That won't happen this year but if the weather stays fair, I should have blooms by about May 10th. I am definitely psyched!

That is good news. Where are you in VA? We moved to WV and we heard on the news this evening a frost advisory is coming. At least it isn't snow.

We are near DC. We had a lovely, warm day today.

Hurray for the first scapes of the season. It will be a while before we see any. Dumortieri will probably be our first.

Although we have had an early spring, we got hit with freezing temperatures last night and expect them again tonight. We had snow too--an inch or two--but figure that is a good thing. I don't think it got as cold as predicted. The lowest I saw about 4 am was 34 and about 5:30 it was 32. The daylilies were probably protected by the snow but the baby fruits on the fruit trees probably bit the dust. We hope this is the last bout of freezing temps this spring.
