candy corn spirea

I am very pleased with my candy corn spirea so far. The red color photo was this spring. One of the first plants to get color in my yard ( which is has limited plants for now) it gets sun until around 12 o’clock and the bed is somewhat raised along the driveway. I amended the whole bed with compost, leaf mulch, and some peat moss. I planted them towards the end of last summer.I am curious what they will look like when they flower. I am posting this because I used this sight for lots of insight on plants, so I am hoping this help someone. I’ve read they can get leggy and less full as they get older, so I will see how the works out in the future. What’s your favorite spirea and why ? I am in zone 7a Philadelphia.

Don't forget to save it for Halloween.

Established Spiraea japonica cultivars are best maintained by cutting all shoots down low at the end of winter every year anyway. So if you adopt this routine you will never see tall and leggy.

in my ground freeze MI ... if you cut them to the ground every year.. you wouldnt have much of a plant any given year ... but in your philly .. .its probably ok ...

if you want it a bit bigger.. just cut it every other years ...

you can chain spirea to your bumper.. drag it twice around the block. and replant it ,,, i probably wouldnt have bothered amending soil for it.. nor wasting money on fert ...

and good job on amending the whole bed.. and not just planting holes ...
