I’m getting bids to refinish a solid maple dining table. One person said he strips then sands and stains it 6 times before doing protective finish coats. He does a lot of commercial work so I don’t know if this is overkill for my residential use.

The other company said they strip, sand and stain once before putting on 4 coats of finish.

The cost of the first way is double the second one.

Can anyone give me any guidance on this? Pay no attention to the room - not my house.
