I just finished covering my favorites (after it randomly snowed this morning, of course!) but I don’t have enough blankets or pots to cover them all. So the “special” plants (fancy hostas and Mac hydrangeas that I winter protect) got covered with piles of mulch and pots or blankets. 28 degree lows for the next couple days, my poor uncovered hostas are going to be stinky mush.

Gary, great looking yard there and wow I can’t wait to see your hostas in the ground! Please share when they are showing their beauty!! I was just out covering my own hostas that are up due to frost.

My yard looks like yours! I am in a western Cleveland suburb and we are definitely going to get snow tonight along with freezing temperatures. I ran out early this morning to put empty trash cans, cat litter containers, anything and everything that I could find to protect the hostas that are up already. Some seem so much larger than I remembered, which of course made it necessary to try and find larger stuff to cover them. All the trees are in bloom as are the magnolias, etc. Going to be quite cold tonight, tomorrow and maybe even Thursday night. The hydrangeas are too large to protect without frost blankets and stakes driven into the ground so they are on their own. Looks like the snowy mess is just about to enter western Ohio now. In Tennessee and Georgia we call the 1st cold spell in April, Dogwood Winter, when the Dogwoods are blooming and then we have a 2nd cold spell we call Blackberry Winter when the blackberries are blooming, toward the end of April, first of May. We are going to have a low of 36 on Wed. night and hopefully that will be our last bit of cooler weather.

A bit of an update. As of 8:30 P.M. April 20th, we have 3" of snow on the ground with temperatures to go down to 30 degrees tonight and 26 degrees Thursday morning. with a nice gradual warm-up. You just gotta love Springtime in Ohio!
