Moldings are often two or three pieces put together. Yours looks like it might have been a two piece. Where the two join together would have been filled with a wood putty. Odd though the corner isn't very neatly done.

That looks more like MDF molding. It is highly unlikely that they went to great lengths to hide the gap between a two piece molding and then left the corner unfinished like that. The miter line is also too uniform to be a two piece.

I agree with Fred - it looks like a speed base to me. If this were a two piece molding, it would show up on the miter joints given the way this looks. I would take your picture to some local building supply stores (not big box stores) and see if they can match it up.

Take a piece of paper and trace out the shape with a pencil. Measure it and note some dimensions on the sketch. Take the tracing and a photo to a local mill shop or hardware store. Your local mill shop should have a similar knife to match the molding. If it's a standard mdf molding, they will be able to tell you where to purchase it. If not, they can make it.
