Would you keep this desk?

We are in the process of a kitchen remodel and are undecided about what to do with the built in desk in the breakfast area. I need to decide before we finalize the countertops. It is basically used as storage for kids art supplies/our office supplies. and as a place to charge our laptops. No one really sits there because there isn’t really room for a chair.

I would not keep it. Desks in kitchens are a dated look and also a dated concept. They just become clutter magnets with no specific purpose. People use laptops and smart phones, so there no need for a desk for a computer. If you want storage, install base cabinets with a counter to match your kitchen counter which can be used as a buffet area or coffee center. As for charging laptops, you must have other places in your home to do that other than your breakfast area.

Thanks. I think we will remove it. I feel like if we miss the storage we might be better off with a cabinet on the opposite wall under the pictures?

The breakfast area is basically the intersection of 4 rooms/doors so it feels really awkward/crowded as is.

Agree with input so far - get rid of it as desk Is underutilized space. Maybe both sides of eating area could have cabinets with tops matching kitchen counters & bases toprovide storage for necessary kitchen appliances etc that aren’t often used. Maybe drawer or two for the kitchen catch all drawer. That would free up storage space Inside kitchen. You don’t mention any reconfiguring of kitchen but looks like great opportunity to expand the peninsula countertop to create a space for seating, eating & expanded kitchen counter workspace

Would recommend to take the desk completely out and if you are in need of extra storage space, look to placing a small cabinet, where you can have electrical plug ins inside the cabinet to charge lab tops and such.

I think you already answered your question, sounds like you don't need a desk there. if you need craft storage, you could put a cabinet there, about 16" deep so it takes up less floor space. it could also be handy as a bar or buffet.

We have removed the raised bar and will have a counter height bar. We will be moving a few cabinets, the sink, dishwasher, and have taken out the island cooktop. We will also add drawers to the lower cabinets. We will be getting new doors, paint, countertops, and floors when that is finished.

Don't think I would keep it either especially if you can have a chair with it.

Wondered what the whiter space in middle of kitchen floor was - it’s where island was! You will love the counter height bar with increased workspace. We recently cut our 42” high divided island down to all counter height - amazing difference!

Yes! It feels much more open already.
