Cabbage and Squash

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to plant squash near cabbage. My thoughts were when the squash starts to spread out that the big leaves may help shade the cabbage heads when it starts getting too hot. I would plant the squash 24 " away so the plants get their own water, but has the squash runs, let them run towards the cabbage. What your thought about that?

You can do it, but I doubt it will make much difference to the cabbage.
