Can a covered porch be added?

Hi, I was looking for opinions and suggestions on updating the facade of this home. Specifically porch ideas (hopefully covered is possible) new exterior clad options, window ideas and new garage and front door. The stone veneer is from the 60'a. It is

only on the front on on one side and the garage pillars - we don't love it and are willing to paint, remove or work with it.

I will say most of us really dislike duplicate posts you already have this discussion going on your original post why ask again. If possible try to delete this post to avoid a lot of confusion

Wow, Patricia. So, do you speak for the entire forum. Don'y bother applying to be the new Miss Manners. I feel my first post was too general and I did not ask about the porch specifically . I'm looking for feedback on that. If you have nothing nice to say......well you know the rest or quite possibly you do not. Get a life. To the nice people out there who care to make suggestions I'd appreciate any feedback.

You’d have to rebuild the entire roof structure, which means the entire house. Not economically feasible.

    Some option

Be sure you keep drainage from all roof areas in mind, directions, gutters and downspouts with extensions to move rainwater away from the foundation.

Wow! Thank you. That’s exactly what I had in mind. Is the roof a you are suggesting a pergola type or flat? I wouldn’t care if it were pergola type because we’ll be hanging out in the backyard, not front.

Wow!! I love both of Celery's options. That doesn't even seem too much to do. I love, love the wide slate path to the porch. The only thing I would say is to consider painting the garage door the same color as the peak and back wall of porch. I don't know why you'd want it to stand out so much?

I can see that the top of the door nearly touches the eaves. any shade structure might feel pretty low and closed in (it's hard to tell from the angle though, I could be wrong). since you don't plan on spending time on this porch, I'd skip the cover and do other improvements instead.

focus on getting the exterior fixed up -- paint, landscaping, lighting. get a new railing (or simply remove it if you don't need it) and fix up the porch floor. those might wind up being enough improvement for your curb appeal. you could always add a pergola later if you still want one.

I think flat roof is better than pergola. You can have seats with cushions there.

I don't think you have headroom for a roof on a porch for the whole area. you need a slope for drainage. Could you settle for a slatted pergola for a little shade? or make just a pitch over part. I feel your pain. sometimes it's not an easy solution.

Lyn, Celery, Mod....you're correct The door is very close to the eaves. The gable to the right hangs over into the porch space too. The gable on the right also protrudes into the yard about a foot further out than the garage. So, this is where I'm befuddled is it possible to get a roof or pergola high enough and how and where does it attach. giving the entrance more presence with a porch is very high on my list of priorities. however if it's not possible or will be too low will have to let it go. I think the porch itself could possible be dropped a bit, but I doubt that buys much.

shoot, yes, I see what you mean about the part next to the garage. honestly, just fix everything else up and I think you'll be happy with how it looks w/o a cover. that railing is SO busy. remove it and I'll bet you'll see an instant improvement -- especially if you upgraded the patio floor to have wide beautiful stairs like in Celery's mockup.
