Rejoyce,celebrate and do a happy dance because those worms mean your soil is very healthy. Contrary to popular believe,it isn't neccessary to maintain worm beds then move castings to plants. Those worms are doing all that for you plus airating soil.

In general, worms are good. They aerate the soil, and help break down organics. LOTS and LOTS of worms may not be so good. They can aerate the soil so thoroughly that the soil doesn't hold water well. Also, they so thoroughly break down organics that the soil structure can suffer, and allow nutrients to leach. That's because they break down macroscopic lignins efficiently. For what it's worth, lots of worms attract moles. That being said, I wouldn't worry about your situation. It may be just temporary. They certainly don't hurt plants directly.

If they have a white ring around them then National Wildlife called them the jumping worm (May 2021 issue) and they are bad guys. Ordinary red wigglers do not have these rings.

Uh-oh - those do look like they might be jumping worms.

If the white ring is an indication, I have a lot of them! They are kinda spastic in movements, I've noticed.
