small laundry room with no door

Anyone have ideas for my laundry room? It’s in the kitchen and has no door. Would it be best to knock the wall out and do a pocket door or do the the shutter doors? It’s right next to the refrigerator but there should be enough room for either. Obviously there isn’t much room for decorating, but I plan on putting in at least one cabinet for towels and sheets and maybe some open shelves for cleaning products.

A door would just get in the way. And end up being left open most of the time anyway.

I would also eliminate the swinging door pantry & use cabinetry instead. Either a pantry cabinet or more counter space with an upper & base cabinet instead.

Do you already live in the house? If so, does the lack of a door bother you? I think you could put up a big framed piece of artwork or poster on the blank wall in the middle, to pull the eye from the machines. But a pocket door would be nice. A louvered pocket door.

What would you think of having stacked machines on the outside wall, and shelves, hooks for a broom and swiffer, floor space for vacuum and laundry baskets in the rest of the space?

It’s a new build house so we don’t live there yet. We don’t really have money to change the outlets for them on one wall (come with the house to be across from each other). I thought about just putting the brooms on that empty wall. We do have a hall closet thankfully but no linen closet.

If it were me, I put put a door on the laundry area -- pocket door is probably your best bet.

What I don't like about the layout is the entry point from the garage into the house. You have to traipse through the living room to unload your groceries and other stuff. I would cut a doorway to the garage on the outside wall of the laundry room if possible.

What's the size of that utility room? The washer and dryer are shown side by side but the room doesn't appear deep enough to allow the appliance doors to open. This LG DLE3400W dryer, for example, requires 52" from the back wall to fully open the door...and that doesn't include space for somebody to stand in front of the dryer. And you need to allow space to get the appliances into the room.

A regular door won’t fit there for sure. Just wanted suggestions on other options.

I don’t know the exact measurements but I lived in an apartment with the same kind of set up and a basic washer and dryer fit just fine.

In my parent’s place we had a little laundry closet and during our reno we took out the doors; primarily because all new machines wouldn’t fit the closet with doors closed depth-wise. We painted the closet (now more of an alcove) in a cheery blue, added some inexpensive wall cabinets from IKEA (two with doors and a centre decorative shelf) and put in an LG front load set with the square doors.
