Cafe “Modern” induction range vs Profile Induction range

Hi!
Boy oh boy, the backorders on appliances... Our local appliance guy has been great, communicating regularly.

We placed an order for the Cafe Induction range a few weeks ago when the delivery estimate was late June. He called to tell us it was pushed to November.

So, he offered to switch our order to the Cafe Modern Induction range (+ $60). It looks more modern and most of the oven door is black in color, which clashes with our color scheme. Delivery June.

The Profile induction range has more stainless steel on the front but is less sleek looking. But $1k less! Functionally they appear the same. Deliver scheduled late August (which should coincide with completing our remodel).

Any experience/advice/opinions? They’re all GE, so should I be skeptical about ANY estimates on date?

Bosch induction range, fwiw, est delivery September.

I would look at the handle shape. The GE proline is curved and the other is straight. What do your fridge and microwave have?

If all we are talking about is looks, I prefer the look of the 1st one.

I too am looking for an induction range and have been told by several salesmen that induction is the problem. Apparently across the board induction is taking the longest. A salesman yesterday told me his information on the Café double oven that I am looking at is Sept. But, he also said he wouldn't rely on that.

    Thank you both!

I prefer the straight handle, but also prefer more stainless than more black. Our fridge is Bosch 800 series with straight bar handles. We’re honestly not fancy or wealthy enough to coordinate everything perfectly 😂 but do want to try as best we can.

If aesthetics are the biggest factor here, would you match the straight bar or be more concerned about the color of the front?

Thanks, @Liz H -- the larger piece of black glass! It makes the whole front quite dark, doesn't it?

The mass of an object will be much more noticeable than the handles IMO.

I have a Wolf range, an ASKO dishwasher, a Kitchenaid wall oven/microwave combo, and a LG fridge. I buy for function and reliability. In your case I would read all of the reviews very thoroughly because you may stumble across something that would steer your decision one way or the other. I vaguely remember a couple people posting that they had eliminated Bosch induction because of the need to return to the master control every time you wanted to adjust a burner up or down.

@julieste, agree. After extensive research I’d selected the Cafe model but it is inordinately delayed, so our rep is directing us to one of the other GE models which is functionally the same just aesthetically different. I’ve heard the same about the Bosch, although in every other regard it’s very highly rated. But at this point I think we’re going to choose between these two GE models.

I’ve had the GE Profile induction for a couple of years & love it. We replaced our gas stove. As for looks, the Cafe model reads “all black” appliance & that mass of black color is much more noticeable than a handle shape difference. Curious if any function features account for the $1k price difference or if it’s just the cost of the all black oven door? If that’s all it is then for me it would be the Profile model hands down!

I’m in the minority it seems. Since this is still a stainless appliance with just a larger black door, handle shape is much more important. This will be in a base cabinet level and not double oven eye level. You probably have some black in your fridge ice/water and in the microwave? For me a mix of curved and straight handles is very noticeable. I have 3 different brands, all with similar curved handles but not exact. My cabinet pulls are also curved/arched— are your pulls straight?

I did some serious research into the GE ovens. The cafe and profile ovens are the same except for the look. I'm assuming this is true for the ranges as well, so choose whichever style matches the rest of your appliances better.

@Rachel your research on the GE models didn’t find any features to account for the $1k price difference OP noted?

I researched the wall ovens, not the ranges. So maybe I'm making a poor assumption. Are you working with a good dealer, i.e. not a big box store? Hopefully they can tell you what the differences are.

This doesn't give any details, so I'd want to consult with an expert but still interesting to know. https://www.hunker.com/12422205/difference-between-ss-ms-in-appliances

    lowes.com lets you compare models.

Thanks everyone! The Profile induction range and Cafe Modern induction range are functionally the same, just aesthetically different so it’s really shocking the price difference!

That's how I felt about the wall ovens and since I mixed brands with my new kitchen, the Profile aesthetic blended better with the other appliances than the cafe.

Anyone have any information on the Kitchen Aid or Samsung induction range? Looking for one that has the bridge element.

@lynne3450 Which one did you ultimately get? If you go t the cafe, would you mind sharing your setup, I am curious as to how it looks in a non-showroom kitchen. I think the price difference is because of the material used and smaller production run.

@katj461 There is a comprehensive thread on induction range if you search "induction range" that briefly talks about them. I've heard the kitchenaid takes 30 minutes to preheat because of the large oven size and has a weird control.
