very similar to our layout. Sink is under window now but stove is up against refrigerator which isn’t good. In order to solve stove/refrigerator issue we have to move sink to peninsula. Did you have any issues with it there?

Wall over peninsula is going to be opened up. Losing two cabinets to do that

Did you decide not to take down the wall and extend your kitchen into the dining area?

Sink in peninsula is fine but, IMO you will need at least a 4 inch high backsplash (mine was 6 inches) to prevent water from dripping down onto the drywall side of the dining area. Laminate -careful planning of the counter depth will allow for a strip of drywall to be adhered to the unfinished back of the backsplash, then painted to match wall. Stone or quartz - "finish" on both sides of the backsplash.

Plan on putting granite or quartz top and will have about 8 inches behind faucet. Designers were not recommended backsplash

Where is the stove going in The new layout? You aren’t taking the window out are you?

Beverly we can’t take the whole wall down for many reasons. designers also said not to. Would lose all my counter and cabinets

My last house had the sink in the peninsula and it was great. We had a run of 12” deep cabinets facing the living room so there was probably 14” of space from faucet to edge of counter

Ours won’t be that deep which is my worry

I think it depends on how neat your people who do the dishes are. We have a sink in our island and we use the counter space directly behind the sink for seating during the daytime. We run a business and often have drawings, bookkeeping records, and laptop computer there within inches of the sink. (We do have a dedicated home office for hubby and desk for me but I love sitting underneath the pendant lights to work.). As long as we don’t get crazy while doing dishes, we don’t splash or get water more than an inch or two behind the sink. We have a nice tall faucet with pull-down sprayer and the water mostly stays in the sink.
