I’m so dumb. Pachysandra 911!

I’m redoing my 2 front beds and had several huge and overgrown birds nest spruces removed. In my haste I decided I wanted to start with a clean slate so just spent the better part of today removing all the pachysandra from one of the beds. I also had to get out a bunch of roots left over from the spruce (the stumps were grinded). Now I’m looking at the other bed that still has the pachysandra and really regretting pulling it. I should have worked around it.

At any rate - here I am. Any chance I replant some of the pachysandra I pulled? I wasn’t nice to it at all. Ugh. I have all that I pulled out - like 2 trash bags full. Anyone know how or if I can try to lay it back down and if it will root?

If it matters, the new landscaping includes a hydrangea hedge, dense yew, juniper gold cone, dwarf Alberta spruce and a river birch kind of anchoring all of it at a corner (12’ from the house). The bed itself is 6-8’.

Or should I pull all the pachysandra? I need someone to tell me what to do.

Whether you keep it or remove it is up to you; if some of what you pulled still is attached to the roots, you can try replanting it, watering it in, and babying it for a while to see how it does.

I forgot that we have a huge patch of this in the way back of the yard. So I’m going to dig up some big clumps and plant those instead. Thanks for responding!

I was just about to delete this as I’d already found a solution.

Yes you can replant all the pachysandra rhizomes you pulled up and regrow it. The root/rhizome is more important than the tops. You can also dig clumps from the patch in the backyard and the other front bed.

I hope your second photo with the conifers is not showing where you plan to place and plant them. They are too close to the house. Do not plant them closer than 3 feet to the house. Four feet away would be better.

Thank you! You’ve given me hope. And yes the conifers will be at least 3’ from the house. Appreciate you saying something. I’ve heard how bad it is for the house if they’re too close.

Pachysandra also roots very easily from cuttings...I would put all I pulled back on the ground cover loosley with something like sphagnum moss and water well and daily until you see some regrowth. Instant patch!

Pachysandra chocked all of my other plants and we are trying to remove all of ours. It has strangled so many bushes, I don’t know why people like this stuff??
