I found a sport too!

I noticed a sport yesterday. I got very excited because I thought it was a streaky sport of Prairie's Edge which is planted nearby. Turns out its just Marbled Cream stabilizing into what looks like Marbled Cream Elite. It could also be Creme Latte but I can't find any pics of that. Guess I'll watch it this year to see how it does. Can I actually call it one of those names if it looks like one of those or is it something else not worthy of a name since its so similar to an existing one, but a separate sporting incident.

I may try to slice through the crown to separate this eye. I think its pretty well rooted.

Anybody know anything about this one? Is it a good grower? Worth keeping? It doesn't seem to be marketed anywhere, but I think it looks interesting. I think the center becomes white.

There's 6 eyes down there and bigger than it looks in the pic. I already cut into a much smaller plant and ended up with almost no roots, but in both cases I'm more interested in preserving the streaker. It actually looks like the stabilizing plant is already separate from the streaky part. I may have received a couple of eyes and planted them together. A couple years later and one of the original eyes has completely stabilized. I don't remember it doing that last year. But here's a pic showing it did. So much for my memory.

I also found this sport on Gypsy Rose this morning.

Think I'll let it do its thing this year and cut it off next year. I can sacrifice a portion of Gypsy Rose to get a good chunk for it. I also have some possibly sporting or reverting on Happy Dayz, but each leaf on that eye looks different. I might just twist that one off if the next leaf unfurling looks solid too.

a lot of these transitory sports.. are in the middle of the crown/ plant.. and if you cut it out of the crown ... you lose the sport and the mother plant .. and you have to wonder if its worth it ...

van wade .. would just cut all the mother leaves off.. forcing all energy into the sport ... of course he didnt care if he killed it.. because he had many more anyway ...

no harm in just digging it up... and look to see if it can be easily pulled apart .. and then replant the pieces ...

i would NOT go cutting on such a small plant ...

is it possible that you have 2 plants that will separate easily?..I checked my sport today..it seems that I have 2 plants and each has a sport..

I can’t speak for the white centered one. But mine is Mostly stabilized to margiin. Still get a few streakers. But rarely hybridize with it. It’s a very tough plant and a good grower. haven’t seen any burning. White centers are always slower Growers and many burn.

Steve, you have cool things going on in your garden! It seems that 2 of your plants reverted 2-3 spaces back. Happy Dayz is a sport from Orange Marmalade, a sport from Paul’s Glory, which is a sport of Perry’s True Blue. That would be quite a reversion for Happy Dayz (3 spaces back). Gypsy Rose is from Striptease, a sport of Gold Standard. So, 2 spaces back. Cool!

I know the feeling. The first couple years I saw nothing. Then a couple years of stuff turning green. Finally some things of interest. It helps to have a lot of Hosta in the ground. I wonder if the weird weather is making more sports. All of the start/stop/start/stop in the growing Hosta from high/low temperatures.

my hostas have more flaws than usual..check the leaf to the right of the sport..
