Help with hardwood gap

We had some of our hardwood pulled up to install tile. The installer used one of the old planks as a transition piece between the hallway (old hardwood) and kitchen (new tile) I notice he wasn’t great at cutting a straight line and there is a small chip in one of the blanks. Not completely terrible but I notice it. Is this something I can fill with caulking, wood putty or something Thanks!

Wood filler is the correct product not putty.

Which can be done AFTER you refinish the hardwoods. Can you see the 'dark' purply/black streaks in the wood (not the gap between planks...I mean the streaks in the wood plank themselves)? And how about the flaky white finish?

Yah...your hardwoods need to be refinished sometime this year...or next year at the LATEST. Which means I would live with this for now. And when the full sand and refinish comes in the next 5-12 months, you then use the wood filler BEFORE the finish goes down.

Save your efforts for the real work = sand/refinish of the wood floors.

Have them pull the board and recut it. This time cut with a guide not freehand.
