It looks like it's about to bloom, so once it does we should have a better idea what it is. The small flowers make me suspect it's a weed, but I'm not familiar with any weeds of the PNW. Does it actually get cold enough there to warrant winter sowing?

As far as winter sowing in the PNw, this was my first year as more of an experiment, I thought it would give me a little of a head start, plus I tend to accidently "weed" any seedlings in my garden. It has worked out really well for some things like tomatoes and lupines.

Yes, the 3rd pic looks like Verbena bonariensis. The others look like something in the mustard family Brassicaceae.

Last picture is Verbena. The other vigorous seedlings are definitely not. They do look as if they’re something in the Brassicaceae, ie some sort of mustardy weed.

one trick i use .. is to sterilize your media before use .. thereby.. hopefully.. getting rid of any weed seed in such .. even if i buy a new bag ...

and i do not use old media ... always buy new for seed starting ....

Thanks for the insight, they will be evicted today! The weird thing is was using sertile materials (or so I thought). Bought a bag of high-quality seel soil and the packet of seeds was from botanical interests. I guess anything can blow in through that cap hole.
