We waited on doing the kitchen and we are glad we did because our goals of what we needed the space to be definitely changed once my mom came to live with us and we had two cooks in the kitchen.
We used Mary Plouffe Designs to help bring all of our ideas to life in the most beautiful way. I jokingly tell her that she is our local Hilary Far of “Love It or List It” on HGTV. She is just a talented designer that just gets her clients style and can bring it all together.
Before: The Kitchen had limited functionality, and limited light into the poorly designed spaces. Despite the size of the space, the layout felt cramped. The heavy yellow cabinets and dark granite counters created the feeling of restricted quarters.
After: With an Entertaining objective in mind we wanted to completely adjust the spacing and focal points of the kitchen. The goal was to brighten the space and visually open up the room to bring in the beauty and serenity of the water and wildlife. The space had to be welcoming with a blend of warmth and elegance but offer generous amounts of storage and counter space for a family of five. Using the outdoors for inspiration, the space needed to make room for playful touches of coastal charm like brass finishes and water like movement within the tile. I am definitely more transitional in style and absolutely knew I wanted two toned cabinets with the uppers being white to open up the space and to create a feeling of added height in the room and brightness while keeping a very natural tone with the lowers. The overall effect, the heart of our home.
The issues we had were that the appliances we wanted were constantly months out due to the pandemic so, the appliances we have now were not our first or second choices but we are happy with them.
